    Discipline is important.

But that’s going over the line, especially on such a young child.

The women appear to be nurturing and the discipline seems structured. I believe in discipline. Discipline is not abuse; it comes from a place of love. A child who is not disciplined, is a child who will undoubtedly face social and emotional imbalances in life. Abuse is abuse and is done to injure and not teach. Discipline may hurt, but it is done to teach. Discipline only becomes seen as abuse when we as a culture present it as such. Discipline, done correctly develops a humble individual who understands boundaries, expectations, and consideration of others. Discipline should be at the discretion of the parent/s. Have any of you visited our public schools? The students are out of control and pretty much call the shots. We, as a culture, have accommodated our youth beyond what is reasonable. No other culture (that I know) allows their youth to defy their elders. The Jet Spray at a Carwash is an interesting and creative form of discipline that I would not choose to use. It appears they have been before. Although, I would not choose such a form of discipline, I don’t consider their choice to be problematic. Our cultural beliefs are problematic.

you can’t be serious! This isn’t discipline, this is abuse! If I saw this in person, not only would I jump to call, I would be OBLIGATED to! There is no way this isn’t abuse! I’m a believer in discipline and spanking, this is not a issue of “cultural beliefs.” I think you should be sprayed, and we’ll see if you still think this is ok.

If it hurts or harms the child, it IS abuse. Doesn’t matter why it is done. Children are beaten and burned all the time in the name of “teaching” or “discipline”. Not every kid who bears scars is the result of a parent doing it in a drunken rage or just for shits and giggles. If we could justify doing horrible things to kids “as long as it was to teach a lesson”, we would ALL do horrible things and no laws would exist to stop them. Kids barely get legal protection as it is.

(Yes, I’ve seen our schools. They don’t work, but it isn’t because they lack a high-pressure jet hose. What’s next? Tasers in the schools? A bullwhip? This is just absolutely sick. There is no excuse. None.)

I have two boys who are 21 and 18. When my children were very young (up to the age of 4 and 1), I believe I did mildly abuse my children in the name of discipline, and I even called the Child Abuse Hotline and spoke to someone there when I felt I was “over the top” or afraid I would go over the top in my disciple. I didn’t want to discipline my children harshly, but I knew they needed discipline and the borderline abusive discipline is what seemed to come naturally to me. Then, by the grace of God, someone came into my life who studied the Bible with me to help me search my heart and compare my life to what the Bible teaches and change where I needed to change. It was a life-changing experience and a gift from God. Not only did I realize I wasn’t a true Christian as the Bible states, but I also realized I was discipling my children out of my own anger and was just seeking to make myself feel better rather than giving my children what they needed to understand what they did wrong, what they should have done, and why they need to do better next time, and all in a spirit of love and calmness having their best interest in heart rather than just seeking to vent my anger at them. I really, really prayed about changing this part of my life because I knew in my heart I was wrong. Yes, the Bible clearly teaches that our job as parents is to discipline our children and teach them to love and fear God (a healthy fear, not a scared fear). When my children would do wrong, I would take a few minutes to myself if I needed to so I wasn’t reacting in anger, talk to my children about what they did wrong and what they should have done, make sure they apologized, give them a hug and tell them I love them, and then if I felt it was apropriate for the “crime”, I would spank them or ground them or discipline them in a way that fit the crime. I can’t tell you how many friends and family have told me and my husband over the years what great kids we have and I only have God to thank for that! My children who are older now, cannot (thankfully) remember the days when I used to borderline abuse them (and by the way, this woman is clearly abusing her child – no doubt about it and she needs to be prayed for as well as her child so she can hopefully learn a better way), but they do talk to me about their problems, are very, very open and ask my advice almost every week about something, always talk to me with respect, and know that I will tell them the truth in love whether it’s they are wrong or they are right. Please – I pray no one will copy this type of abuse but will instead, if you really believe in Godly discipline (and no, I’m not talking about no discipline which as lead our children and society to be out of control, rude, arrogant, not respect authority, etc), please pray to God that he will help you to understand how to discipline your child in love rather than anger.

Perhaps the water got turned of in her home or there was a problem with the plumbing and her only concern was the cleanleness of her child!!! Or maybe she lives in the south and it was very very hot out and only wanted to cool her daughter off. I swear you people just love to jump to conclusions with out knowing all the facts
