I’m fairly sure that the first elephant (likely a male) wasn’t actually eating poop from the second (likely a female). Instead he was almost certainly checking where she was in her oestrus cycle and whether she was getting ready to go into heat.
No other explanation really makes any sense, biologically speaking, given how far that male stuck his trunk. If it was an anal probe (or a search for poop), I don’t think it’d require the 1st elephant to reach in so deeply – their bowels probably aren’t more than a foot from their anus, even in an elephant. On the other hand, their uterus is probably a ways in there since it’s got to be big and deep-seated enough to hold a 250lb fetus. And, actually, lots of animals stick their noses up/near each others’ asses & urine to determine sexual readiness etc etc – it’s called ‘flehmening’.
So, it turns out that an elephant shoving its trunk literally into another elephant isn’t REALLY such a far fetched idea after all..
The pictures of the sea monsters were so cool. My husband loved them. He wants to go fishing now. lol. Great site!
Coprophagy, when an animal eats feces, usually its own.
That however, was gross nature
Gotta love it.
It smelled like cookies… I also know this is impossible, but did the elephant smile at the end!?
I need your e-mail to make to you a proposal, but your Submit a Link e-mail is not working. Please?
